Maggie and Andrew Zerafa
At Bakhoos Bakery in Fortrose, we met Maggie and Andrew Zerafa, a warm couple whose lives beautifully intertwine travel, work, and Scotland’s charm. Maggie, originally from Ireland, now runs a pottery business on Skye, while Andrew, from Australia, first came to Scotland for work more than 30 years ago.
Over coffee and pastries, they told us about getting married at the fairytale-like Eilean Donan Castle, their winters spent skiing, and their love of exploring new places. They also suggested we take the north road to Skye with a stop in Lochcarron village—a detour that became one of our highlights.
It was one of those special travel encounters where a chance meeting turns into meaningful connection, enriched by the stories of locals who’ve made Scotland their home.
